Back again this summer is Whole Foods' $20/20 Minute Fill The Grill Challenge. Last year's battle featured some of Miami's top fine dining chef, but this year the competition pays homage to The 305's most popular food truck chefs. The same rules apply this year as they did last summer: each chef has twenty dollars and twenty minutes to shop for ingredients within Whole Foods Market, and then an additional twenty minutes to prepare a meal using only a grill. Winners will be chosen by a panel of judges who will award points on taste, creativity, and affordability - the dishes, after all, need to be something that can be recreated on someone's home grill.
Bravo has taken one part cooking show and one part travel show to bring viewers a culinary whirlwind spanning the entire globe. The network’s new culinary competition series, Around the World in 80 Plates, takes twelve chefs around the world to cook, learn about unfamiliar cultures and their cuisine, and most likely stab each other in the backs with their perfectly sharpened chef knives. The combination of Top Chef skill, the Amazing Race stamina, and Survivor strategy is sure to satisfy the hunger of even the most discerning reality TV junky.
This afternoon, the intersection of Broadway and 5th Avenue at 23rd Street held a cooking competition based off the creators of Chopped and BBC America’s, new travel-adventure-cooking series, No Kitchen Required. The chef’s and stars of the show, Michelin-starred New York restaurateur Michael Psilakis, first-ever Chopped Grand Champion Madison Cowan and elite personal chef from New Zealand, Kayne Raymond competed in preparing dishes using New York City ingredients. Similar to the show, the three chefs used these native ingredients—squirrel, pigeon, hare, and crow—to create dishes that were then judged by New York natives. The judges for the competition were David Diehl, two-time Super Bowl champion and offensive lineman for the New York Giants, co-founder of the most popular food app “Foodspotting,” Soraya Darabi, and In Style Magazine’s Hal Rubenstein who had no idea what these “unique” ingredients would be.

Gordon Ramsay, then today is your lucky day. Ramsay is looking for a
select number of talented amateur chefs for the opportunity to become a
MasterChef!
Ramsay
will challenge and coach contestants to new culinary heights, but isn't
afraid to speak his mind. If you've got a thick skin and special
talents, this may be your chance to shine.
For those in the New York area, simply fill out the application at Fox.com/casting and make your way to Sur La Table in Manhasset this Sunday, January 10th, where they'll be holding auditions between noon and 5 pm. Don't forget to bring your best - judges will be expecting one prepared dish to be served at room temperature. You'll be given the opportunity to plate your dish there, but you are responsible for any utensils or other materials that you may need.
