To each his own I say! Some bring in the New Year in NYC with loved ones at a small dinner; others do it up in a crowded venue or even on the street with thousand of strangers watching the ball drop in Time Square. But here is something new and different you might consider doing when bringing in the New Year it is called the "New York Road Runners Midnight Run," or the annual "fun run."
This event has been going on in Central Park for 30 years and counting. The numbers this past New Years were around the five thousands. The 4-mile Emerald Nuts Midnight Run in Central Park festivities begin at 10pm with a DJ to get people pumped up. When Midnight rolls around the runners take their marks, a gun flares off, firework in NYC go off over head and off they go. It's a healthy rush that some might prefer over the norm.
Maybe running isn't your thing, but you're still looking for an alternative way to welcome in the New Year. Even if you don't want to run in the race yourself, consider acting as a spectator. Join the runners in their costume parade and contest that starts at 11pm in Central Park. This is a great event to bring the family to and welcome in a healthy and fresh New Year. So think about it, how do you want to start off 2010?
